Sino Grandness – on the verge of testing critical supports (26 Sep 16)

Sino Grandness has slumped 45% from an intraday high of $0.785 on 7 Jun 2016 to $0.435 on 26 Sep 2016. Sino Grandness has broken its support at $0.450 on 22 Sep 2016 with a larger than average volume. It is on the verge of testing an important support around $0.415 – 0.425. If this breaks with volume and on a sustained basis, it will be pretty bearish. Based on Chart 1 below, it remains entrenched within a strong downtrend with death crosses forming on its 21D and 200D EMA and 50D and 100D EMA. RSI is trading at around […]

Biases in Investing (25 Sep 16)

“I’m an idiot. I shouldn’t have sold off ‘Stock A’. I just know that it will rocket upwards in the next few days. And now it has surged. It is so obvious. I should have seen it coming” Do the above sentences sound familiar? If yes, then you probably have a hindsight bias. Biases are typically insidious and can affect and distort our thinking and interpretation of data and choices without our knowledge, thus we have to be wary of the biases and act accordingly. I was recently asked by Lianhe Zaobao (please refer to their article HERE dated 25 […]

Ernest’s market outlook (23 Sep 16)

Dear readers, S&P500 reached my measured technical target of 2,120 and rebounded. STI continues to be trapped in a range. What’s next?   S&P500 Index Just to recap what I have mentioned on 9 Sep 2016 (see HERE), I wrote “The break below 2,157 on 9 Sep 2016 points to an eventual measured technical target of around 2,120. With this sharp plunge, RSI has declined from 59 on 19 Aug 2016 to around 32 on 9 Sep 2016. It is noteworthy that since Aug 2015, S&P500 typically staged a rebound when RSI reached around 27 – 32. Amid the sharp […]

Selling – When do you sell a stock (18 Sep 16)

Typically, when you read an analyst report, or a news article on a company, or when someone asks you to take a look at a stock with promising prospects, the decision to buy is usually easier, as you are buying on the prospect of potential gains. After your purchase, if the stock subsequently appreciates, or slumps, or stays around the same level for some time, you may wonder what to do with your existing stocks. Through my work as a remisier, I have received extremely frequent (and rather standard) questions from my clients (or sometimes readers), whether they should buy […]

Chiwayland – Aiming to be an international property developer; trading at 0.4x P/BV! (14 Sep 16)

While doing my usual stock screening, Chiwayland pops out as one of the undervalued companies, based on price to book valuation metric. Coupled with its recent multitude of positive announcements, I decide to take a look at this company.   Company description According to Chiwayland’s press release, its properties span across the heart of the Yangtze River Delta Region, including Shanghai, Suzhou and Nanjing. To date, Chiwayland has completed 11 property developments with an aggregate total GFA exceeding 2.0 million square metres, and is ranked as one of the Top 100 Real Estate Development Enterprise. In 2014, the Group embarked […]

Oxley’s base building between $0.380 – 0.460 (13 Sep 16)

Dear all Based on Chart 1 below, Oxley seems to be an interesting stock. Last Fri (9 Sep 2016) was the T+6th day after its sharp rally. The recent price decline from $0.445 was accompanied with weak volume. (My personal guess is that contra players have been taking profit for the past few days). Broadly speaking, the stock has been stuck in a one-year trading range between $0.380 – 0.460. ADX has declined from an unsustainable 69 on 2 Aug 2016 to around 37 on 13 Sep 2016. All the exponential moving averages (“EMAs”) have stopped their declines with 20D, […]

Ernest’s market outlook (9 Sep 16)

Dear readers, S&P500 finally broke the (one month plus) tight trading range 2,157 – 2,194 with a 2.5% drop yesterday. What’s next? Read on for more.   S&P500 Index Just to recap what I have mentioned on 19 Aug 2016 (see HERE), I wrote “S&P500’s EMAs continue to move higher with a constant degree of separation which is a positive development. However, I am (increasingly) wary of two main factors namely, A) ADX continues to decline from 17.1 on 5 Aug 2016 to 15.9 on 19 Aug 2016, indicative of a lack of trend. B) Indicators such as MACD, MFI […]

Ernest’s STI market outlook (5 Sep 16)

Dear all, I am not able to do the biweekly “Ernest’s market outlook” as I am in the midst of transiting to another chart platform. While I am still exploring Chartnexus, here is my interpretation of our STI chart.   STI Based on Chart 1 below, STI faces a cluster of resistances at 2,865 – 2,870, followed by 2,882. ADX remains weak at 17 on 5 Sep 2016, indicative of a lack of trend. Indicators such as OBV, MFI continue to slide with price. RSI closed at 50.5 today. A sustained break below 2,800 is bearish for the chart. Near […]
