S&P500 hits the highest last seen in Aug 2022! Should we buy, hold or sell? (3 Jun 23)

Dear all First of all, apologies for the hiatus in posting new market outlook on my blog. I have been extremely busy for the past three months. My clients can attest to how busy I have been. I have been sending out my market views and news even on weekends and on public holidays. 😊 With reference to my previous writeup published on 26 Feb 2023 (click HERE), I mentioned that I planned to pare positions so that I can accumulate on weakness. In retrospect, it was a timely call. I was fortunate that I have pared my positions so […]

U.S & European stocks logged their largest weekly falls for 2023. What’s next for the equity markets? (26 Feb 23)

Dear all With reference to my writeup published on 30 Jan 2023 (click HERE), where I mentioned I would be cautious in the overall markets, especially after a sharp run up, US stocks have dropped consecutively for the in the past three weeks. Dow has fallen consecutively for the past three weeks and logged its sharpest 1,010 points or 3.0% last week.   So, what is next for our markets? Do we buy, hold or sell? Just to highlight, the below is a sample of a brief stock alert or / and observation which I typically send to my clients […]

What are reits? (25 Jul 22)

Dear all I am reproducing this article in its entirety. This article first ran on Manulife US REIT’s thought leadership column, Viewpoints, which publishes regular content on the U.S. economy and the office sector. Follow MUST on LinkedIn for all the latest updates! What are REITs? REIT is short for ‘real estate investment trust’. In Singapore, REITs are a type of professionally managed collective investment scheme which acquires, owns and finances income-generating real estate. Because of the stable stream of contractual rents they collect from tenants and their requirement to distribute a minimum 90% of their earnings, REITs provide investors with […]

My clients can attest to the numerous messages and information which I send out daily (Nevertheless, I do remind clients to exercise their due diligence on such information which I send as they are general in nature and may not be suitable to one’s specific risk profile etc.) For my readers, thanks for the patience and for viewing my blog which unfortunately, is not updated as frequently as […]

China Aoyuan – a potential value play? (15 Jun 21)

Dear all Against the backdrop of rising inflation, some market strategists have recommended “additional urgency” to rotate from technology plays to “old economy value stocks” to hedge against potential inflation pressures (as they believe such inflation pressures are not transitory). A stock that may tick all the right boxes may be China Aoyuan (“Aoyuan”) (3883.HK). It belongs to the old economy stocks (i.e. property sector which may be a hedge against inflation) and seems to be a value play, given that it trades at HKD7.01 on 15 Jun 21.   Who is Aoyuan? Quoting from a report by DBS Research […]
