Hang Seng & STI have fallen close to 2,900 & 250 points in one month! (28 May 19)

Dear readers, Asian markets have fallen quite a bit in the past one month. For example, Hang Seng has fallen close to 2,900 points since touching a high of 30,280 on 15 Apr to trade 27,391 which is the low last seen in January. STI has fallen almost 250 points from an intraday high of 3,415 on 29 Apr to close 3,165 today. Looking at the indices may be deceiving as many shares have fallen a lot. For example, based on Table 1 below, most stocks have fallen at least 10%, with Sembmarine tumbling almost 17% in less than a […]

ISOTeam trades near 4 year low despite record order books and bright outlook (10 Jan 19)

ISOTeam (“ISO”) caught my attention. Despite sitting on a record order book, ISO has tumbled approximately 44% from an intra-day high of $0.385 on 10 Apr 2018 to close near a four year low at around $0.215 on 10 Jan 2019. The share price decline was attributable in part to its 4QFY18 surprise loss announced in Aug 2018 (financial year ends in Jun). Nevertheless, my gut feel is that 4QFY18 should mark the trough in earnings and results should improve on a quarter on quarter basis in the next few quarters. As this company is a potential turnaround play, I […]

GSS announces oil, price drops to near pre announcement! (21 Dec 17)

GSS Energy (“GSS”) announced that it has struck oil and (surprise) gas in its first well on 13 Dec 2017. Share price jumped to an intraday high of S$0.178 on 14 Dec 2017, after the trading halt was lifted. It has since weakened to an intra-day low of S$0.156 on 21 Dec 2017 before closing at $0.161. Is the party in GSS over? Or is this just the beginning? I have managed to meet Mr Sydney Yeung, GSS’ CEO for a 1-1 chat two days ago on the company’s business and outlook.   Here are the key takeaways Q1. Previously, […]

2 companies to watch out as markets reach new highs (3 Nov 17)

Based on yesterday’s close, Nasdaq clocked a 63rd record close for 2017 and overtook the previous 62 record closes for 1980! S&P500, Nasdaq and Dow registered their 25th record close for 2017 simultaneously, matching the record established in 1995. On our local front, STI approaches a more than two year high. 2017 has not ended yet. For those investors who have not invested much, are they too late to the party? Are there still stocks with scope for potential upside? Personally, I believe that there are two companies, namely Hatten Land (“Hatten”) and GSS Energy (“GSS”) with interesting charts and […]

GSS Energy – Personal view from technical and fundamental aspects (6 Oct 17)

In my technical write-up on GSS Energy (“GSS”) dated 14 Sep 2017 (click HERE), I highlighted the possibility that GSS may be on the verge of forming a potential inverse head and shoulder formation. For this write-up, I have put in my personal view based on both technical and fundamental aspects. Read below for more.   Technical outlook – bullish Why do I feel the chart looks positive? a) Previously, in my earlier technical write-up, I mentioned that a breach above $0.157 with volume and on a sustained basis points to an eventual measured technical target of around $0.186. GSS […]

GSS Energy potential inverse head and shoulder formation (13 Sep 17)

Since my write-up on GSS Energy (“GSS”) dated 18 Aug 2017 (see HERE), GSS’ share price has jumped 12% from $0.137 on 18 Aug 2017 to close at $0.152 on 13 Sep 2017. Based on my personal chart observation, it seems likely to be in the midst of forming a potential bullish inverse head and shoulder formation.   Chart outlook GSS has reclaimed its 200D exponential moving averages (“EMA”) within three trading days after breaching. It has subsequently moved back to its lower trading range of around $0.152. Based on Chart 1 below, there are certain noteworthy points. a) Potential […]

GSS Energy dived 31% since 29 Mar 17. What gives? (18 Aug 17)

Since my write-up on GSS Energy (“GSS”) dated 28 Nov 2016 (see HERE), GSS’ share price has surged 154% from $0.078 on 28 Nov 2016 to an intraday high of $0.198 on 29 Mar 2017. It has subsequently dived 31% to close $0.137 on 18 Aug 2017. For chartists who monitor GSS, they would have noted that GSS has broken its 4-month trading range of (approximate) $0.152 – 0.181 which is a bearish development. In this write-up, I will structure it differently. To attempt to explain the price fall, I will discuss what has changed and what has not changed […]

Based on Chart 1 below, Indonesia, […]

Golden Energy – Is this a laggard coal play? (17 Feb 17)

Pursuant to Golden Energy’s (“GEAR”) compliance placement at $0.670, GEAR has not closed above $0.670 since its debut on 12 Dec 2016. In fact, GEAR has slumped 21% from $0.655 on 12 Dec 2016 to $0.520 on 17 Feb 2017. This underperformance is even more glaring as compared to +24% appreciation in Geo Energy’s share price over the same period. Is GEAR a laggard coal play? Let’s take a look at some of the possible investment merits and risks.   Investment merits Targeted surge in targeted production volume GEAR has four mining concessions with the largest mining concession in BIB […]
