Qualcomm – extremely overbought after a 74% rally within 3 months! (23 Apr 19)

Dear readers, This week, Qualcomm caught my attention as it has appreciated approximately 74% from US$49.10 to trade at US$85.62 in less than 3 months. This is due in part to the favourable announcement that Qualcomm and Apple have reached a multi-year settlement agreement (click HERE for more information)   Why is it interesting? Personally, I think Qualcomm may be a potential short target with a favourable risk to reward proposition with a take profit of a few bids, base mainly on a technical perspective.   Basis to short a) With reference to Chart 1 below, Qualcomm is on a […]

Best World – down 47% in 2 months! Buying opportunity or falling knife? (12 Apr 19)

With reference to my 19 Sep 2018 write-up (click HERE), Best World has appreciated approximately 147% from $1.35 on 19 Sep 2018 to touch an intra-day high of $3.33 on 13 Feb 2019. At that time, Best World has dropped out of my watchlist after its incredible rally. However, with its recent 47% tumble from its all-time intra-day high $3.33 on 13 Feb 2019 to trade $1.76 on 12 Apr 2019, it seems interesting again. Is this a buying opportunity or falling knife?   Why is it interesting? a) Valuations are more attractive now Based on Bloomberg (see Table 1), Best World […]

Chipotle Mexican Grill reaches all time overbought after an 84% rally in less than 4 months! (1 Apr 19)

Dear readers, This week, Chipotle Mexican Grill (“Chip”) has caught my attention with its blistering 84% surge since 24 Dec 2018 and its US$100 rally in the past 16 trading days.   First, what does Chip do? Based on Chip’s company website (click HERE), it is an American chain of fast casual restaurants and has nearly 2,500 restaurants as of 31 Dec 2018 in the U.S., Canada, France, Germany and UK. It is the only restaurant company of its size that owns and operates all its restaurants. Its market capitalisation amounts to US$19.6b.   Why is it interesting? Personally, I think […]

S&P500, Nasdaq and Russell 2000 hit records, time to switch to underperforming markets? (24 Aug 18)

Dear all, S&P500, Nasdaq and Russell 2000 hit records last Friday with S&P500 closing at 2,875. However, our STI has dropped 11.8% after hitting a decade high of 3,642 on 2 May 2018. Hang Seng has also tumbled 17.4% after hitting a high of 33,484 on 29 Jan 2018. Is this the time to switch out of the U.S. markets and plough it back to STI and Hang Seng? This seems to be the question on most investors’ minds as I am also posed this question during a live interview on Money FM89.3 on last Thursday. Let’s take a closer […]

GSS Energy – Personal view from technical and fundamental aspects (6 Oct 17)

In my technical write-up on GSS Energy (“GSS”) dated 14 Sep 2017 (click HERE), I highlighted the possibility that GSS may be on the verge of forming a potential inverse head and shoulder formation. For this write-up, I have put in my personal view based on both technical and fundamental aspects. Read below for more.   Technical outlook – bullish Why do I feel the chart looks positive? a) Previously, in my earlier technical write-up, I mentioned that a breach above $0.157 with volume and on a sustained basis points to an eventual measured technical target of around $0.186. GSS […]

Ernest’s market outlook (13 Jan 17)

Dear all, STI performs to my expectations as it heads towards 3,040 (my eventual technical measured target price which I mentioned previously). What’s next? For the charts analysis below, you can cross – reference to my market outlook sent on 6 Jan 17 HERE. (Actually, my bi weekly market update should be done next week. However, I noticed that the market seems to be reaching some near-term potential resistances. Hence, I decided to do a market update. Due to time constraints, I did not put in Hang Seng analysis for this issue)   S&P500 Based on Chart 1 below, it […]

ISOTeam on the verge of a potential bullish chart breakout (9 Jan 2017)

ISOTeam recently caught my attention with a surge in price, accompanied with volume. Based on Chart 1 below, ISOTeam has been trading in a tight range of $0.375 – 0.405 since 30 Aug 2016. ISOTeam closed unchanged at $0.395 on 9 Jan 2017. All the exponential moving averages (“EMAs”) are turning higher with 20D EMA on the verge of forming a golden cross with 50D EMA. Amid positive placed DIs, ADX has turned higher from 17 on 27 Dec 2016 to 30 on 9 Jan 2017, indicative of a trend. OBV has strengthened, together with other indicators such as RSI […]

Ernest’s market outlook (6 Jan 2017)

Dear readers, Two weeks ago, I mentioned that although Hang Seng is in a downtrend, it may rebound as oversold pressures build. Hang Seng jumped 928 points in the past two weeks. What lies ahead?   S&P500 Index Just to recap what I have mentioned on 23 Dec 2016 (see HERE), I wrote “S&P500 is consolidating its gains for the past two weeks. It continues to be on a clear uptrend amid rising exponential moving averages (“EMAs”). ADX continues to rise from 36 on 9 Dec 2016 to 39 on 23 Dec 2016 on the backdrop of positive placed directional […]

Sino Grandness – on the verge of testing critical supports (26 Sep 16)

Sino Grandness has slumped 45% from an intraday high of $0.785 on 7 Jun 2016 to $0.435 on 26 Sep 2016. Sino Grandness has broken its support at $0.450 on 22 Sep 2016 with a larger than average volume. It is on the verge of testing an important support around $0.415 – 0.425. If this breaks with volume and on a sustained basis, it will be pretty bearish. Based on Chart 1 below, it remains entrenched within a strong downtrend with death crosses forming on its 21D and 200D EMA and 50D and 100D EMA. RSI is trading at around […]
