Markets may continue to be volatile but also present valuable opportunities ahead (6 Mar 2022)

Dear all We are two months into 2022. How is your portfolio doing? With reference to my writeup (click HERE) published on 17 Feb 2022, I mentioned that STI is likely to face headwinds in the near-term and SG banks’ share prices are likely to peak around 7-18 Feb based on past observations.   Coincidentally a) STI peaked on 17 Feb. In fact, STI has tumbled 6.9%, or 239 pts from its intraday high 3,466 on 17 Feb to close 3,227on 4 Mar. Last Friday’s intraday low was 3,208. More about its chart below. b) Banks – DBS peaked on […]

China Aoyuan – a potential value play? (15 Jun 21)

Dear all Against the backdrop of rising inflation, some market strategists have recommended “additional urgency” to rotate from technology plays to “old economy value stocks” to hedge against potential inflation pressures (as they believe such inflation pressures are not transitory). A stock that may tick all the right boxes may be China Aoyuan (“Aoyuan”) (3883.HK). It belongs to the old economy stocks (i.e. property sector which may be a hedge against inflation) and seems to be a value play, given that it trades at HKD7.01 on 15 Jun 21.   Who is Aoyuan? Quoting from a report by DBS Research […]

Dear all, Yesterday evening, as I run my stock screening via Bloomberg, ARA HTrust comes out to be the most oversold among Singapore listed stocks yesterday with a RSI of 8.2. This is its most oversold level since listing. ARA HTrust has tumbled approximately 22% from an intraday high of US$0.900 to close at US$0.705 yesterday, which is the lowest close since IPO. Why does it attract my attention? Read on for more.   A) Chart – Selling pressures may ease as oversold pressures escalate Based on Chart 1 below, ARA HTrust is entrenched in a downtrend. All the exponential […]

Eagle Hospitality Trust falls to all time low price amid all time low RSI (28 Oct 19)

Dear all, S&P500 hit a near intra-day record high at 3,027 on 25 Oct 2019 (one-point shy of its intra-day record high 3,028 on 26 Jul 2019). However, such optimism and risk on sentiment cannot be felt on this SGX listed stock Eagle Hospitality Trust (“EHT”). It fell 16% last Friday to close $0.545. This is an all-time low price since its IPO (IPO offer price US$0.780) on 24 May 2019. Let’s take a look why this EHT has under-performed and why it has caught my attention this week.   Reasons why EHT has underperformed till date The below list […]

HRNet – All time oversold levels amid lowest price since IPO! (29 Aug 19)

Dear all Another exciting week! This week, HRNet caught my attention as it approaches all time oversold RSI level. In addition, it is trading at the lowest price $0.560 since its IPO price at $0.900. Given the basis below, my personal view is that HRNet may be presenting a favourable risk reward setup for a long trade. Based on Figure 1 below, average analyst target is around $0.930, representing a potential capital upside 66%. Estimated div yield […]

CKH Holdings at 19-year oversold levels; multi-year low price amid 10-year low valuations (6 Aug 19)

Dear all What a hectic and exciting week! This week, CKH Holdings (00001.HK) (“CKH”) caught my attention with its 19-year low RSI level since end Dec 2000. At the time of writing this, CKH last trades at HKD67.60, level last seen around 21 Feb 2014. With such a precipitous decline, CKH is trading below its 10-year average valuations. Given the basis below, my personal view is that CKH may be presenting a favourable risk reward setup for a long trade. Do take a look at the basis and more importantly, the risks inherent in such trades.   My personal basis […]

Sinopec falls 33% since last year; nears 19-year oversold level (14 May 19)

Dear all This week, Sinopec (00386.HK) caught my attention with its 33% fall since 21 May 2018. With its sharp fall, it has become extremely oversold with RSI at 15.1. Given the basis below, my personal view is that Sinopec may be presenting a favourable risk reward setup for a long trade. Do take a look at the basis and more importantly, the risks inherent in such trades.   My personal basis a) Attractive valuations At HKD5.63, Sinopec is trading at approximately 10.3x current PE and 0.8x P/BV. These valuations are attractive as compared to its 10-year average PE and […]

Best World – down 47% in 2 months! Buying opportunity or falling knife? (12 Apr 19)

With reference to my 19 Sep 2018 write-up (click HERE), Best World has appreciated approximately 147% from $1.35 on 19 Sep 2018 to touch an intra-day high of $3.33 on 13 Feb 2019. At that time, Best World has dropped out of my watchlist after its incredible rally. However, with its recent 47% tumble from its all-time intra-day high $3.33 on 13 Feb 2019 to trade $1.76 on 12 Apr 2019, it seems interesting again. Is this a buying opportunity or falling knife?   Why is it interesting? a) Valuations are more attractive now Based on Bloomberg (see Table 1), Best World […]
