Nov has been a fantastic month for equities! What’s next? (3 Dec 22)

Dear all With reference to my writeup published on 25 Oct (click HERE), where markets seem to be plagued with various negative news, I pointed out that Dow may have formed a bullish double bottom formation. In the writeup, I also featured Hang Seng tracker ETF (2800.HK) and UOB. My clients would have noticed my almost daily writeups on the stocks to consider taking a closer look as they hit lows in Oct. Below are only some of the stocks which I have featured on my blog in Oct and their performance. Table 1: Featured writeups on my blog in […]

Chart 1_S&P500 returns around recession 23 May 22

Markets – possible technical rebound in the near term but likely short lived (26 May 2022)

Dear all I have been extremely busy with work, hence the dearth of articles on my blog. Dow has closed lower for the eighth consecutive week. This marks the longest period of consecutive weekly losses since 1923! S&P500 has registered a seventh week of losses, its longest weekly losing streak since March 2001. Are the markets going to drop into an abyss? Or has the bottom been reached? Before we delve into this, let’s recap on my earlier market outlook article dated 4 Apr 22 (click HERE). Previously, I wrote that I am more inclined towards the bearish / prudent […]

Markets – diverging signs from technicals and fundamentals. What should we do? (4 Apr 2022)

Dear all March has been a roller coaster month. Hong Kong market, represented by Hang Seng index touched multi-year lows around 14-15 Mar and has rebounded approximately 21% from the intraday lows. S&P500 performed well too with a third consecutive weekly rise. With reference to my writeup (click HERE) published on 6 Mar 2022, I mentioned that a) Odds are likely of a downward push first I mentioned that based on chart, odds are higher for a downwards move for both S&P500 and STI, to retest the previous support around 4,115 – 4,222 and 3,138 – 3,200 (with 3,175 a […]

With reference to my writeup (click HERE) published on 17 Feb 2022, I mentioned that STI is likely to face headwinds in the near-term and SG banks’ share prices are likely to peak around 7-18 Feb based on past observations.   Coincidentally a) STI peaked on 17 Feb. In fact, STI has tumbled 6.9%, or 239 pts from its intraday high 3,466 on 17 Feb to close 3,227on 4 Mar. Last Friday’s intraday low was 3,208. At HKD13.42, it trades at only 1/3 the value of its listed subsidiary Tianneng Battery! Besides this sharp plunge and significant valuation gap, what else does TP have to catch my attention? Jiutian 2020 chart 2 Dec 2020

Jiutian – proxy to economic recovery and exposure to EV sector (2 Dec 20)

Dear all Since my write-up “Singapore – Asia’s worst equity market YTD, any opportunities ahead?” posted on my blog on 1 Nov 2020 (click HERE) citing opportunities in our Singapore market, Singapore market (as represented by STI) has clocked in its best monthly return in Nov 2020 since May 2009, up 15.8%! In the U.S., the strong market sentiment is filtering to its small mid cap space with Russell 2000 hitting record high last week. For those readers who are looking for Singapore small caps which are overlooked by the market, Jiutian Chemical (“Jiutian”) may be an interesting company to […]

Dear all, Since 19 Oct 2020, City Dev has fallen nine out of ten sessions with a cumulative drop of 20%. City Dev closed at $6.20. Let’s take a look why this City Dev has slumped and why it has caught my attention.   Reasons why City Dev has underperformed The below list of likely reasons is not exhaustive. It is just based on my personal view what may have caused City Dev’s underperformance. 1) Concerns over how much support is required by Sincere Property Group Concerns over how much support is required by Sincere Property Group (“Sincere”) flare up […]

Singapore – Asia’s worst equity market YTD, any opportunities ahead? (29 Oct 20)

Dear all It is less than a week from the U.S. election. U.S. markets are understandably jittery. S&P500 has fallen 316 points, or 8.9% from its intraday high of 3,550 on 12 Oct 2020 to touch an intraday low 3,234 on 30 Oct 20. In fact, S&P500 has tumbled 195 points or 5.6% this week. S&P500 closed at 3,270 on 30 Oct. The media has written extensively on the risks surrounding U.S. election since months ago hence the election event risk is hardly a new one. Examples of risks which media has written about is the possibility on contested election […]

Navigating Depressions and Great Recessions (Real Estate Edition, 8 May 20)

This write-up was reproduced with permission from Ray’s Estate Clinic, written by Founder, Raymond Chng. Please refer to the end of the article for more information on Raymond. We are currently in unprecedented times (as of writing in April 2020). Covid-19 is upon us as a global pandemic which will go down in history books as the gravest health crisis mankind ever faced in this century. Over the past few weeks, I had the fortune to converse and interview numerous Seniors (our Merdeka & Pioneer Generation) whom I knew for some time already. The wiser generation I interviewed range from […]

Chart 1_record order book as of 10 Aug 2018

ISOTeam trades near 4 year low despite record order books and bright outlook (10 Jan 19)

ISOTeam (“ISO”) caught my attention. Despite sitting on a record order book, ISO has tumbled approximately 44% from an intra-day high of $0.385 on 10 Apr 2018 to close near a four year low at around $0.215 on 10 Jan 2019. The share price decline was attributable in part to its 4QFY18 surprise loss announced in Aug 2018 (financial year ends in Jun). Nevertheless, my gut feel is that 4QFY18 should mark the trough in earnings and results should improve on a quarter on quarter basis in the next few quarters. As this company is a potential turnaround play, I […]
