Civmec – poised for a potential breakout above flag formation! (10 Sep 23)

Dear all With reference to my technical write-up on Boustead Singapore dated 23 Jun (click HERE), I pointed out that Boustead Singapore seems to be poised for a bullish breakout. It closed at $0.825 on 23 Jun and subsequently jumped 9% to touch an intraday high of $0.900 on 26 Jul. This compares favourably to STI which generated a 4.0% over the same period. Another stock, Civmec has recently caught my attention due to its chart development which may portend a potential bullish breakout. It closed $0.805 on 8 Sep. First of all, let’s understand what Civmec does.   Description […]

CDL Hospitality trades at multi-month low levels $1.03 despite strong 2H outlook! (3 Sep 23)

Dear all CDL Hospitality Trust (CDREIT) has caught my attention after slumping from $1.19 on 31 Jul to close $1.03 on 31 Aug. After taking into account of $0.0251 dividend per share ex on 4 Aug, it is still down 11.6% for the month, notching a multi-month low despite a likely buoyant 2HFY23F. Let’s take a closer look on why CDREIT has caught my attention.   Firstly, why did it drop 12% in Aug? The drop in CDREIT’s share price may be attributed to three main reasons, viz. a) 1HFY23 results missed some analysts’ estimates 1HFY23 results released on 28 […]

Boustead Singapore – chart poised for a bullish breakout! (23 Jun 23)

Dear all With reference to my write-up on Comfort Delgro dated 9 Jun 2023 (click HERE) where I pointed out that I am comfortable to accumulate Comfort Delgro for a trading play, Comfort Delgro closed at $1.03 on 9 Jun, the lowest close last since on 18 Mar 2004. Since my writeup, Comfort Delgro has fortunately appreciated nine out of ten trading days to close almost 15% higher at $1.18 today. This compares favourably with STI which moved up 0.2% over the same period. Another stock, Boustead Singapore has recently caught my attention due to its chart development. It closed […]

Comfort Delgro closed at $1.03, lowest last seen on 18 Mar 2004! (9 Jun 23)

Dear all Comfort Delgro (“CD”) closed at $1.03 today. Based on Bloomberg, this was the lowest close last seen on 18 Mar 2004. The main reason cited for this recent drop was that Citi has reduced its target price for CD from $1.63 (26 Feb 2023) to $1.32 (2 Jun 2023). Nevertheless, they maintained their buy call. Is it all doom and gloom? Should we throw in the towel and just give up on CD? Personally, I find CD interesting at current levels. Before I delve into it, just for record purpose, I have a previous article on CD published […]

Markets – diverging signs from technicals and fundamentals. What should we do? (4 Apr 2022)

Dear all March has been a roller coaster month. Hong Kong market, represented by Hang Seng index touched multi-year lows around 14-15 Mar and has rebounded approximately 21% from the intraday lows. S&P500 performed well too with a third consecutive weekly rise. With reference to my writeup (click HERE) published on 6 Mar 2022, I mentioned that a) Odds are likely of a downward push first I mentioned that based on chart, odds are higher for a downwards move for both S&P500 and STI, to retest the previous support around 4,115 – 4,222 and 3,138 – 3,200 (with 3,175 a […]

GSS Energy – Electric mobility business takes shape (25 Jan 22)

Dear all, With reference to my write-up published on 5 Jan 2022 (click HERE) citing that Asian indices are likely to outperform that of the U.S. market in 2022, our Asian indices, viz. Hang Seng and STI have outperformed the U.S. market significantly (See Table 1 below). U.S. S&P500 notched a 6.4% decline whereas Hang Seng and STI registered a 9.0% and 4.2% gain respectively since my write-up. Table 1: S&P500, Hang Seng and STI 2021 performance since 5 Jan 2022 Source: Ernest’s compilation Given the outperformance, are there still pockets of opportunities in our Singapore market? The short answer […]

S&P500 closed at record high! What should we do? Buy or sell? (9 Aug 2021)

Dear all S&P500 has clocked its sixth consecutive month of gains in July 2021. This is the longest stretch since 2018. Furthermore, S&P500 has touched a record high to close at 4,437 on 6 Aug 2021. In the next 3 months, are markets poised for higher highs? Or should we be prudent and take some profit off the table first? Let’s take a look.   Ernest’s personal market observations a) Lack of catalysts to push the market higher Since Covid last year, markets, especially U.S. markets, have been able to push higher due partly to the combination of ultra-easy monetary policies; […]

STI – Will it head for new YTD high after S&P500 clocked its 7th consecutive day of rally? (6 Jul 2021)

Dear all S&P500 and Nasdaq clinch fresh record highs last Friday with S&P500 clocking in seven consecutive days of gains in its longest winning streak since August 2020. Despite the roaring U.S. markets, Singapore Straits Times Index (“STI”) has slipped almost 100 points from its 2021 intraday high of 3,237 on 30 Apr 2021 to close 3,141 on 5 Jul 2021. Can STI exceed 3,237 for 2HFY2021? Most strategists believe so, as their year-end targets for STI are easily above 3,237. Let’s look at the possible reasons why analysts are positive on our Singapore market.   Reasons to be optimistic […]

Yangzijiang looks interesting; tests support $0.940 – 0.980 (8 Feb 21)

Yangzijiang (“YZJ”) has weakened approximately 13% from $1.11 on 13 Jan 2021 to close $0.970 on 5 Feb 2021. It has significantly underperformed STI (STI only dropped around 3% over the same period) and is the top STI constituent stocks with the highest potential return (see HERE). Why is it interesting? Read on for more…   Interesting points on YZJ a) Orders are likely to improve in FY21F Based on DBS Research 3 Dec 2020 report, the surge in China (Export) Containerized Freight Index (highest since Mar 2015) and the tripling of the Baltic Dry Index may prompt ship owners […]
