Raffles Medical – Potential trading play as its results are just around the corner (20 Feb 23)

Dear all, Raffles Medical caught my attention recently as CLSA raised its target price from $1.70 to $1.92 on 8 Feb 23. $1.92 is a street high target with most analysts’ target price ranging between $1.58 – 1.65. Raffles Medical closed down 1 cent to $1.45 last Fri. Based on my personal view and observation, generally speaking, analysts seldom issue updated call so near to the company’s results release date. I mean there is usually no such urgency to do so, unless they have a significant change in view on the company. For those analysts who do, their calls are […]

Markets – diverging signs from technicals and fundamentals. What should we do? (4 Apr 2022)

Dear all March has been a roller coaster month. Hong Kong market, represented by Hang Seng index touched multi-year lows around 14-15 Mar and has rebounded approximately 21% from the intraday lows. S&P500 performed well too with a third consecutive weekly rise. With reference to my writeup (click HERE) published on 6 Mar 2022, I mentioned that a) Odds are likely of a downward push first I mentioned that based on chart, odds are higher for a downwards move for both S&P500 and STI, to retest the previous support around 4,115 – 4,222 and 3,138 – 3,200 (with 3,175 a […]

My thoughts on Sing Medical Group’s possible share transaction (29 Dec 20)

Dear all Sing Medical Group (“SMG”) announced on 18 Dec 20 that the Company is currently in discussions with a third party regarding a possible transaction involving the Company’s shares. The discussions are preliminary and there is no certainty or assurance that such discussions will progress beyond the current stage or that any transaction will materialise as a result of such discussions.   Why am I interested in SMG? My personal view is that at $0.315, given a potential share transaction scenario, the risk reward seems favourable. Please refer to my basis and the risks as highlighted below: 1) Past […]

S&P500 has rebounded 31% from 23 Mar 20! Time to buy, hold or sell (19 Apr 20)?

S&P500 has staged a whopping 683 points, or 31% rebound from its intraday low of 2,192 to close 2,875 on 17 Apr 20. Many clients have asked me (almost daily) whether we have already seen the bottom and is this a good time to buy stocks etc. At 2,875, S&P500 is just 15% away from its record intraday high of 3,394 on 19 Feb 2020. The rally in Wall Street is at a stark contrast to grim news from Main Street in terms of job losses; significant number of deaths from Covid 19; lockdowns and poor corporate results. Both bull […]

Frencken nears 14Y overbought RSI level amid 10Y high prices (19 Nov 2019)

This week, Frencken has caught my attention with its 34% surge from $0.690 on 31 Oct 2019. It closed $0.925 on 19 Nov 2019. At $0.925, this is very near to its 10-year high closing price $0.930 set on 18 Nov 2019. Since 31 Oct 2019, it has risen 10 out of the past 13 trading days with two days having closed unchanged. RSI closed at 88.1 on 19 Nov 2019, which is near a 14 year overbought level. Based on Frencken’s chart, it seems to present a favourable risk to reward short trade. Please see the basis and more […]

Yangzijiang – may be ripe for a bounce (12 Nov 2019)

This week, besides Food Empire which caught my attention (click HERE), Yangzijiang (“YZJ”) also caught my attention for being a laggard. It has given up all the gains since its large 7% jump on 5 Nov 2019. Notwithstanding the recent mild profit taking, it seems to be holding up well above its uptrend line. Given that its results are just around the corner, it may be an opportune time to take a look at YZJ. Do take a look at the basis, and more importantly, the risks.   Basis A) Chart analysis – a breakout / breakdown seems to be […]

It […]

I have appended my personal chart analysis, together with some potential positive and negative points on the company. Read on for more below.   Chasen’s chart analysis Based on my personal interpretation of Chasen’s chart, it seems to have tested its double bottom neckline around $0.070-0.072 for the past few days. For the past two days, it managed to close higher consecutively with above average volume. In fact, Chasen closed today with 7.3m shares changing hands, 3.8x above its […]

S&P500 at 2,979 – limited potential upside (8 Sep 19)

With reference to my earlier write-up (click HERE) titled “Why am I cautious going into July…”, July was coincidentally the peak for S&P500. Hang Seng touched an intraday high of 29,008 on 4 Jul 2019 before slumping 4,108 points to an intraday low of 24,900 on 15 Aug 2019 (Hang Seng closed at 26,691 on 6 Sep 2019.) Personally, given the current market levels and information, I am not comfortable to raise my current percentage invested from 53% to significant levels (say >80%). Why am I cautious in the market? Do read on…   Factors supporting my cautious basis Above […]
